Expiry date vs place for presentation
An expiry date fixes when a credit ends. The place for presentation determines where the documents must reach in time — and can affect who bears the cost and transit risk of getting them there.
Everyone reads the expiry date. Fewer read the presentation terms beside it. A credit states an expiry date and a place for presentation; it is available with a nominated bank (or with any bank), and where it is available with a nominated bank, the issuing bank remains an additional place for presentation (UCP 600, article 6). That framework — not the date alone — helps determine who carries the cost and mail/transit risk of getting documents to the right place before expiry.
